The borough was officially formed in 2000 through the merger of the neighboring communities of Barnesboro and Spangler. While each community had its own unique history and identity, residents shared a common vision for the future and worked together to create a stronger municipality.

The area’s roots run deep in Pennsylvania’s coal mining heritage, with generations of families contributing to the growth and development of the region. Many of the traditions, landmarks, and community values that define Northern Cambria today can be traced back to those early years.

More than two decades after the merger, Northern Cambria continues to build upon that foundation. Residents, businesses, community organizations, and local leaders all play a role in shaping the borough’s future while preserving the history that makes it unique.
